Experience
We do not limit our aerating season to only a couple of weeks in the fall like most landscaping companies in Holly Springs, NC. We aerate over 500+ yards per year during the spring, summer and fall depending on the turf type. Aeration is the #1 service we provide. Each yard is unique and can present their own challenges when it comes to aerating. Before we aerate a yard, we ask the customer if there are any known areas to avoid, then we walk the entire property and check for any obstacles.
Equipment
We have a variety of professional grade aeration equipment capable of servicing any size property, large and small. Each type of equipment has benefits and drawbacks. Some machines, such as our stand-on aerators, can service larger properties very efficiently but will not fit thru small backyard gates, or wet yards. Other equipment, such as our walk-behind aerators do well on small properties but may not be suitable for lawns with hills.
Technique
With our double-pass aeration technique, you're guaranteed to see plenty of aeration holes which allows oxygen and nutrients to reach the rootzone and break up compacted soil. The best method to aerate a lawn is to go over in one direction, then do a second pass at a diagonal. After our team completes a second pass with the aerator, we walk the yard and make sure any areas were not missed. Finally, we check with the customer to verify their satisfaction.
Frequently Asked Questions:
When is the best time of year to aerate?
The best time of year to aerate warm season grass (Bermuda, Zoysia, Saint Augustine, Centipede) in the Holly Springs, NC area is May-July once the grass is fully green and actively growing. The best time of year to aerate cool season grass, such as fescue, is September-October when reseeding takes place.
How do I prepare my lawn for aeration?
To prepare for your aeration service, please mow the grass to a proper height, flag all irrigation (sprinkler heads), remove all pet waste, and remove all toys, lawn decorations/furniture/etc. If the ground is rock-hard it is recommended to water the lawn leading up to our aeration appointment to help soften the ground. We do not specialize in preparation services, so it is very important this is completed before our arrival.
What are the benefits of lawn aeration services?
- Improved Nutrient Absorption: Aeration reduces soil compaction, allowing roots to access nutrients more easily. This enhances the overall health and vigor of the grass.
- Enhanced Air Exchange: By creating openings in the soil, aeration promotes better circulation of air around the roots. This helps prevent thatch buildup and encourages beneficial soil organisms.
- Water Infiltration: Compacted soil can prevent water from penetrating deeply into the ground. Aeration facilitates better water absorption and reduces runoff, leading to healthier root systems and drought resistance.
- Thatch Reduction: Thatch is a layer of dead grass and roots that can build up on the soil surface. Aeration helps break down thatch by stimulating microbial activity, preventing it from becoming too dense and suffocating the grass.
- Improved Seed Germination: If overseeding your lawn, aeration creates a conducive environment for new seed growth. The holes provide a place for seeds to settle, come into contact with soil, and establish strong root systems.
- Enhanced Overall Lawn Health: Ultimately, aerating your lawn promotes stronger, more resilient grass. It reduces the likelihood of diseases taking hold and enhances the lawn’s ability to recover from stressors like foot traffic and heat.
Regular aeration, typically done once or twice a year depending on soil type and usage, can significantly contribute to maintaining a lush, healthy lawn. If you would like to schedule an appointment for aeration, contact us below.
