About Our Lawn Aeration Services in Holly Springs and Fuqua Varina
First, let’s explain what lawn aeration is:
What Is Lawn Aeration?
Aerating your lawn involves punching small holes all over the lawn which allows oxygen and nutrients to reach the roots and improve the grass.
The aerators Wake Landscapes uses are capable of fitting in the smallest or largest yards. We provide a double-pass core aeration service which means the entire yard is covered two times.
What Are the Benefits of Lawn Aeration Services?
- Improved Nutrient Absorption: Aeration reduces soil compaction, allowing roots to access nutrients more easily. This enhances the overall health and vigor of the grass.
- Enhanced Air Exchange: By creating openings in the soil, aeration promotes better circulation of air around the roots. This helps prevent thatch buildup and encourages beneficial soil organisms.
- Water Infiltration: Compacted soil can prevent water from penetrating deeply into the ground. Aeration facilitates better water absorption and reduces runoff, leading to healthier root systems and drought resistance.
- Thatch Reduction: Thatch is a layer of dead grass and roots that can build up on the soil surface. Aeration helps break down thatch by stimulating microbial activity, preventing it from becoming too dense and suffocating the grass.
- Improved Seed Germination: If overseeding your lawn, aeration creates a conducive environment for new seed growth. The holes provide a place for seeds to settle, come into contact with soil, and establish strong root systems.
- Enhanced Overall Lawn Health: Ultimately, aerating your lawn promotes stronger, more resilient grass. It reduces the likelihood of diseases taking hold and enhances the lawn’s ability to recover from stressors like foot traffic and heat.
Regular aeration, typically done once or twice a year depending on soil type and usage, can significantly contribute to maintaining a lush, healthy lawn.
When is the best time to aerate?
The best time of year to aerate warm season grass in our area (Bermuda, Zoysia, Saint Augustine, Centipede) is May-July once the grass is fully green and actively growing. The best time of year to aerate cool season grass, such as fescue, is September-October when reseeding takes place.
How do I prepare my lawn for aeration services?
To prepare for your aeration service, please mow the grass to a proper height, flag all irrigation (sprinkler heads), remove all pet waste, and remove all toys, lawn decorations/furniture/etc.
If the ground is rock-hard it is recommended to water the lawn leading up to our appointment to help soften the ground. We do not specialize in preparation services, so it is very important this is completed before our arrival.
How Deep Do the Tines Penetrate the Ground?
Ideally, we try to get 1-2 inches deep. Any deeper and it can cause unwanted turf damage, utility line damage, etc.
