#1 Mosquito Control in Holly Springs, NC

Did you know mosquitos are not only annoying, but they are also the deadliest animal in the world killing almost 800,000 people per year? We offer cost effective mosquito control and prevention services in Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina, NC. Their biting can diminish the quality of outdoor activities. As potential carriers of disease organisms, they pose a risk both to people and domestic animals. Mosquitos are linked to diseases such as malaria, dengue, Zika, and West Nile virus. They can also transmit parasites to domestic animals, including heartworm to dogs. Female mosquitos bite humans and other animals to draw blood to produce eggs. Males do not feed on blood but live only on nectar and other plant juices. Most mosquitos are active between dusk and dawn, but some will bite during the daytime. Adult mosquitos live only 1-2 weeks and find potential hosts for feeding using cues such as body heat, scent, movement, and exhaled carbon dioxide.

Life Cycle of the Mosquito

Mosquitos need water to breed and undergo complete metamorphosis; three of the four stages of growth must be completed in water.

  1. Egg - hatches when exposed to water.
  2. Larva - (plural: larvae) "wriggler" lives in water; molts several times; most species surface to breathe air.
  3. Pupa - (plural: pupae) "tumbler" does not feed; stage just before emerging as adult.
  4. Adult - flies short time after emerging and after its body parts have hardened.

Mosquito Control Methods

We apply barrier treatments to prevent adult mosquitos from moving into residential areas. These treatments will kill and repel mosquitos and are applied every 21 days between March-October. We do not recommend mosquito control misting systems, or any other system that releases insecticides at timed intervals. The automatic release of pesticides, irrespective of the actual presence of mosquitos, is inconsistent with good control practices. Such indiscriminate applications can contribute to insecticide tolerance and resistance.

  1. Source Reduction includes eliminating potential breeding sites where water accumulates, such as: buckets, tires, bird baths, trash cans, plastic tarps.
  2. Larvacides: Insect Growth Regulators (IGRs) such as priproxyfen, prevent mosquito larvae from developing into adults.
  3. Adulticides such as bifenthrin, prallethrin, etofenprox, pyrethrins, permethrin, resmethrin, and sumithrin are used for adult mosquito control.
  4. Biological Control larvae-eating fish such as the mosquitofish (Gambusia affinis), common guppy (Poecilia reticulata), and killifish (Cyprinodontidae) can be used.
